I like to work outside to absorb my surroundings. Inevitably I meet people, the landowner, the little old lady who keeps on offering you fruit. 

My first love is to paint in watercolour, but I so love it that I have endless references that for some reason I don’t think will be right in watercolour and so I don’t use them. Thus I have a huge amount of raw material. 

His ability to capture the subtle effects of light and shade, of water and reflections, is particularly evident in his work. 

He is currently revisiting acrylic - who knows what will happen! his portraits are special. When I last visited his studio there were three very strong musicians, all in process, including a blues singer with a guitar (a real beauty) - Martins Gallery.

Biography - Robert studied graphic design at Brighton Polytechnic, graduating in 1980 with a BA (hons) and has been a professional artist and illustrator ever since. He is based in Cheltenham and specialises in the creation of fine watercolour paintings. 

In addition to his local exhibitions, Robert’s work has been displayed at the Mall Galleries in London and the Coach House Gallery in Guernsey. He is also a member of the Fosseway Artists.
