I try to do my own thing, construct the picture carefully, express what I see and leave out any unwanted detail.

Valerie Batchelor
I studied at Salisbury College of Art, now resident in Wiltshire. My work is varied and versatile. I like to sit and observe the scene and try to see what is important to me and react to a subject rather than copy it.

I try to do my own thing, construct the picture carefully, express what I see and leave out any unwanted detail. All the time looking for the light.

Most of all I hope to convey a feeling of atmosphere and sensitivity in my painting.

I am greatly influenced by the work of Ken Howard and the late Roy Perry. I also admire the work of impressionist Camille Pissaro and John Singer Sargent.

Biography - Valerie has work accepted by the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and the Pastel Society for Exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London and at the Royal West of England Academy. She is an elected member of N.A.P.A National Association of Painters in Acrylic.
